Biography

Layla is a co founder and artistic director of performance collective Shunt. A theatre Maker specialising in physical, visual and musical performance, having trained and performed as an aerialist for the last 12 years circus often lies at the heart of her work.

Creation and performance for Shunt’s large scale company shows include: 'The Ballad of Bobby Francois', 'The Tennis show', 'Sightings', 'Dance Bear Dance', 'Tropicana', 'Amato Saltone' and the forthcoming show 'Money' . For the Shunt lounge Layla is a regular curator of the programme with her 'Mama’s Kitchen' project ; focusing on circus, physical performance, the visual and sonic arts and live music which represents a diverse range of international artists.

For the lounge she has also created and directed numerous site specific physical (aerial / dance) performances using bodies and sound, as well as audio - visual installations and musical interventions.
