Layla is a highly experienced circus director, teacher and project leader. For over 15 years she has worked in an inclusive way with people young and old to share the skills of Circus and Theatre. Her career has taken her across the globe spanning locations from Brussels to Brazil. Over many years of teaching Layla has witnessed the powerful way learning these skills can dramatically improve physical and emotional well being, develop confidence, creativity and concentration as well as strength, flexibility and coordination. She firmly believes that circus is an empowering tool for life!
Layla has been teaching on the London Youth Circus at The Circus Space for over 12 years training young people between the ages of 8 – 18 to a very high standard on Static Trapeze. She has choreographed work annually for the London Youth Circus show working with a diverse range of directors and companies including Frantic Assembly, Company FZ and Ockhams Razor. At the Circus Space Layla also teaches on the adult program and has trained many adults both recreationally and professionally. She also worked as an aerial tutor for the paralympic project to train up paralympic performers to participate as aerialists in the closing ceremonies of London 2012.
She has led education projects to create performances with many venues, organisations and schools and for numerous events including; Central School of Speech and Drama, Cirque de Monde, Grupo cultural Afro Reggae, Bridport Arts centre, The Lord Mayors show, Tower hamlets, Camden and Waltham Forest Council.
Layla regularly collaborates with theatre companies to train and choreograph actors to create aerial work in their productions including; Metta Theatre, Unlimited Theatre, Polka Theatre, Geraldine Pilgrim, and countless times within her own company Shunt.
Alongside her regular classes Layla also delivers aerial training on a 1:1 basis to adults and children.
